Tonal Ecstasy A Cappella has been a fixture of the McGill and Montréal music scene since 1998. Founded at McGill University by a group of friends who loved to sing, TX has grown and evolved over twenty years, and now performs at their biannual concerts and various professional and personal events around Montréal.

Composed of students in almost every faculty at McGill, Tonal Ecstasy's members are incredibly talented individually and their collective love of music shines through in their music. The group provides leadership opportunities to all of its members through its student-run executive board. In a variety of positions from Music Director to Vice President of Technology, the executive board allows TX’s members to demonstrate their range of talents and interests.

TX performs a variety of genres, including pop, rock, R&B, folk and jazz. All the music in TX’s setlist is inspired by produced music and arranged by members of the group. Typically, the music director and the composer collaborate with the rest of the group to create an original and enjoyable sound.

Although TX's alumni are scattered throughout the world, they remain committed to and involved with the group. Alumni are invited to join current members on stage at the end of each concert to sing “Boondocks” by Little Big Town. Whether they are arranging music or coming out to support TX at the semesterly concerts, the alumni play an important role in the community TX strives to create.

Most importantly, TX is an incredible community for its members. Each rehearsal is started with a question of the day, that quickly ascends into lively chatter. When not singing, studying, or attempting both at once, you can probably find Tonal Ecstasy hanging out at Gerts Campus Bar after their Wednesday Rehearsals.
